The Pioneers and Wellesley will meet for the 49th time on Saturday afternoon in a series that began in 1979 - a 6-0 Smith win. The Pioneers lead 25-18-5 and the last two meetings have resulted in double overtime ties.
LAST MEETING
Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass./Weston) scored in the 60th minute for Smith and Melise Knowles tied the game in the 82nd minute as Wellesley and Smith played to a 1-1 draw on October 24, 2015.
LAST WELLESLEY WIN
First-year Kyla Petrie scored an 85th-minute goal, as the Blue soccer team posted a 1-0 win over Smith on October 26, 2013.
LAST SMITH WIN
Ellie Theurer found the back of the net in a 1-0 win for the Pioneers on October 15, 2011. Goalkeeper Lindsey Gregor made six saves in the shutout.
SCOUTING THE BLUE
Wellesley enters Saturday's contest after a crucial 1-0 NEWMAC win over Clark Univeristy Tuesday night. First year forward Julia Jung scored the lone goal of the game at the 29:18 mark in the second half and first year goalkeeper Olivia Reckley recorded six saves, five in the second half, to record her second shutout of the year. Senior forward Maddie Corlborg and first year forward Carley Phillips lead the offense with four goals apiece. Reckley owns a 1.46 goals against average and .789 save percentage. The Blue average 1.14 goals per game and were picked to finish seventh in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith looks to snap a four game losing streak Saturday and earn their first conference win since September 17th. In a 2-1 loss to WPI Tuesday night, senior forward
Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) scored a second half goal for the Pioneers. Smith leads the team with nine goals and four assists for 22 points followed by junior forward
Jordan Isaacs (Weston, Conn./Weston) who has seven goals and five assists. Isaacs and Smith rank in the top six in the NEWMAC in points, goals and assists. Goalkeepers
Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) (0.90 gaa/.826 save pct) and
Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass./Berkshire) (1.69 gaa/.778 save pct) have been solid in net throughout the season. Smith leads the NEWMAC averaging 2.94 goals per game and was selected to finish sixth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
