NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team continued their season with a home meet against Springfield College Tuesday evening at Dalton Pool. The Pioneers dropped a 170-130 decision to the Pride despite strong performances by many student-athletes.

Swimming HighlightsÂ
- Smith got off to a roaring start as the 200 yard relay team of Kate Niemiec (South Windsor, Conn. ), Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), Abby Onos (South Portland, Maine/South Portland), and Aidan Coffin Ness (Madison, Wis.) finished first in 2:01.80.
- Stoyanova won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:17.78, while also taking the 100 yard butterfly in 1:04.43 and second in the 400 IM (4:54.18).
- Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies) finished second (11:22.71) in the 1,000 free before a first place time of 57:32 in the 100 yard free and runner up finish in the 500 free (5:35.57).
- Niemiec recorded the top time in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.31) and 200 back (2:18.46).
- Onos finished second in both the 200 free (2:05.18) and 50 free (26:49).
Diving Highlights
- First year Abigail Hanna (Averill Park, N.Y.) won the 3-meter board, scoring 254.60, and took second in the 1-meter dive, with a score of 234.80.
- Junior Elly Stone (West borough, Mass./Westborough) placed first on the 1-meter, scoring 285.70 for a 50 point win and claimed a second place finish on the 3-meter with 248.20.
