SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Smith College swimming and diving team dropped a 168-127 decision to Springfield College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) dual meet Tuesday evening in the Art Linkletter Natatorium. The Pioneers drop to 1-3 on the year in dual meets.
RESULTS
SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
- The meet opened with a third place finish for the Pioneers in the 200-yard medley relay by Maddy Meadows-McDonnell (Indianapolis, Ind. /North Central), Junko Taniguchi (San Francisco, CA), Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), and Paula Torre-Nieto (San Juan, PR) with their time of 2:04.19.
- In the 1000-yard freestyle, Smith also saw two top-four finishes as first year Charlotte Crandall (Lawrence, KS) finished in a time of 11:30.43 for second, and sophomore Aidan Coffin Ness (Madison, Wis./Madison East) was fourth in 12:12.08.
- Action then moved to the 200-yard free which saw Stoyanova finish third in 2:08.69, while Crandall (1:07.81) and Coffin Ness (1:20.88) posted second and third place times in the 100-yard back and 100-yard breast, respectively.
- Crandall touched the wall first in the 200-yard back in 2:19.97, while senior Abby Bergman (Culver City, Calif./Vistamar) posted a winning time in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:32.88.
- In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Crandall, Stoyanova, Torre-Nieto, and Meaows-McDonnell powered to a first place finish in 4:15.28.
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
- Diving action kicked off on the 1-meter board where senior Elly Stone (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) was the top finisher with a score of 260.39.
- Sophomores Abigail Hanna (Averill Park, N.Y./Doane Stuart) and Shoshana Werblow (Ashland, Ore. /Ashland) were second and third with marks of 255.45 and 239.92.
- Hanna had another strong performance on the 3-meter board as she posted a first place finish with 269.55.
- Stone rounded out the top-three with a score of 242.18.

Smith College will compete again on Saturday, November 18 when the Pioneers host Westfield State at 1:00 p.m.
