Swimming & Diving Concludes Dual Meet Schedule with Win Over Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Powered by a number of strong efforts, the Smith College swimming & diving team posted a 167-119 victory over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon.

RESULTS

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Pioneers opened the meet with a 2nd place performance in the 200-yard medley relay from the foursome of the Kate Niemic, Abby Onos (South Portland, Maine/South Portland), Jenny Huo (Bellevue, Wash. /Bellevue), and Haley Markos (Dover, N.H./Dover).
  • Sophomore Desi Stoyanova (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) then swam to first overall in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a mark of 11:22.77. Classmate Aidan Coffin Ness (Madison, Wis./Madison East) was third (12:11.62), while Charlotte Samuels (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) sophomore was sixth (12:47.67).
  • In the 200-yard free, Eliza Cummings (Denver, Colo./Denver Center for Int'l Studies) finished first with a time of 2:00.11, while Markos was third (2:03.66).
  • The 100-yard backstroke saw Niemiec place first with a time of 1:02.01, while Ann Mudanye (Kampala, Uganda/Aga Khan Academy) was third (1:13.86).
  • Huo went on to place first in the 100-yard breast with a time 1:13.13, while Michaela Stamm (Henderson, Nev.) was third (1:16.87).
  • Stoyanova then posted another first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.15.
  • In the 100-yard free, Cummings grabbed another first place finish with a time 56.39 while Niemiec had the same result in the 200-yard back.
  • Stoyanova and Markos posted back-to-back first place performances in the 200-yard breast and 500-yard free, respectively.
  • Huo touched the line in first in the 100-yard fly in 1:03.59.

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
  • On the 1-meter, Elly Stone (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) dove to a second place finish with 270.10 points followed by Shoshanna Werblow in third (263.30) and Abigail Hanna (Averill Park, N.Y./Doane Stuart) in fourth (253.25)
  • Stone was the top finisher on the 3-meter with a 285.80 performance as Hanna was second (274.05) and Werblow was fourth (254.65.

Smith is off until February 16 when the conference heads to WPI for the 2017 NEWMAC Championships.
