FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

• The Smith College soccer team gets back into conference play Saturday when the Pioneers travel to No. 16 MIT. This will be the first ranked team Smith plays this season.

 

• Senior goalkeeper Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) ranks second in the NEWMAC in save percentage (.957) and third in saves (45) and goals against average (0.33).

   

• Smith was picked to finish 8th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll while the Engineers were selected to finish 2nd.

 

• The Engineers return the reigning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year Olivia Struckman, NEWMAC First Team All-Conference selection Emily Berzolla, 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District and NEWMAC Second Team All-Conference honoree Hailey Nichols, and 2015 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year Allie Hrabchak. 

 

• Sophomore forward Chessa Hoekstra ranks second in the NEWMAC in goals (6) while Berzolla leads the conference with nine assists.
