Rally Falls Short in Loss to Stockton

MINNEOLA, Fla. - The Smith College softball team exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as the Pioneers fell to Stockton University, 15-9, on Monday afternoon at the Minneola Athletic Complex.

Stockton cruised to a 12-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings. The Pioneers responded in their half of the fourth for six markers to cut the lead in half at 12-6. Smith added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to slice the margin to 12-9 but that was as close as they would come.

Sophomore Elodie Townsend (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Six more Pioneers collected hits for Smith in the loss.

In the circle, Rowan Turner (Kansas City, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) allowed eight runs on six hits. She was replaced by Jessica Flohr (Foster City, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands School) who gave up seven runs on seven hits.
