Swimming and Diving Claims Five Event Wins at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Smith swimming and diving opened up the dual potion of its fall schedule on Tuesday evening with a 168-124 loss to Springfield College in the Art Linkletter Natatorium. First-year Kristin Cirulli (Edgewood, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) won two events for the Pioneers. 

RESULTS

SWIMMING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cirulli continued to impress, earning victories in the 200 fly (2:14.45) and 200 breast (2:32.63).
  • First-year Annie Wilson (Boston, Mass./Boston Latin School) claimed a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:30.36 and finished second in the 100 free (59.36) and 1000 free (11:43.76).
  • Sophomore Elisabeth Nesmith (Danville, Ky./Danville) set the top time for a Pioneer in the 50 free, clocking in a second place time of 27.12.
  • First-year Haley December Brown (Kewadin, Mich./Lake Highland Prepatory School) scored in second place in the 500 free in 5:49.09.
  • In the final event of the night, the 200 free relay team of Cirulli, junior Paula Torre-Nieto (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Panther Creek), first-year Virginia Griswold (Clarkesville, Ga./Tallulah Falls), and Nesmith cruised to the victory with a time of 3:56.52.

DIVING HIGHLIGHTS
  • Senior Shoshana Werblow (Ashland, Ore./Ashland), the reigning NEWMAC Diver of the Week, placed first on the 1-meter (225.67) and was the top point scorer on the 3-meter (212.62). 
  • On the 3-meter, sophomore Hannah Chang (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) followed with a score of 134.85.
