Track & Field Shines at BU Valentine Invitational and Tufts Stampede Open

Boston, MA - Smith College Track & Field had an impressive weekend with standout performances at both the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Tufts Stampede Open. From record-breaking relays to personal bests and New England DIII Championship qualifications, the Pioneers showcased their depth and determination.

Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational Highlights

One of the weekend's biggest highlights came from the distance medley relay (DMR) squad of Serena Britner (Hampton, CT/St. Bernard), Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North), Shams Ferver (Barre, VT/U-32), and Pria Parker (Hingham, MA/Hingham), who shattered the Smith school record by an incredible twelve seconds, running 12:08.00. Their time currently ranks #9 in Division III, marking a historic achievement for this group.

Individually, several Smith athletes recorded personal bests on BU's track:

  • Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) ran a PR of 26.94 in the 200m.

  • Catherine Collins (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) posted a PR of 3:08.99 in the 1000m.

  • Lucy Kreipke (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) improved her 3000m time to a PR of 10:22.12.

Tufts Stampede Open Highlights

At Tufts, more personal records and New England Division III qualifiers added to the team's success:

  • Hillary Connor (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) secured a D3 New England Championship qualifying time in the 3000m, running a PR of 10:34.44 for 6th place.

  • First-year Elise Kennedy (Middletown, CT/Middletown) also improved in the 3000m, clocking a PR of 11:49.05.

  • Amelia Dion (Burlington, VT) punched her ticket to New England Divison 3 Championships with a PR of 3:10.84 in the 1000m, finishing 3rd overall.

  • Senior Tiff Hooker notched PRs in both the 60m (8.39) and the 200m (28.33).

  • First-year Mollie Doyle () recorded a PR in the Shot Put with a mark of 7.95m.

Up Next: 

Smith will host the Peter De Villers Cup next weekend at the Indoor Track and Tennis Center on campus with the New England Division 3 Championships the following weekend.
