Smith Make Strides at NEWMAC Championships, Finish 6th

SOUTH HADLEY, MA – Smith Track and Field delivered a series of standout performances at the 2025 NEWMAC Championships, highlighted by a conference title, historic relay marks, and multiple personal bests.

Smith finished sixth overall as a team, a strong improvement from a ninth-place finish last season.

  • Pria Parker (Hingham, MA/Hingham) captured the NEWMAC Championship in the 1500 meters, clocking a winning time of 4:34.08. Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee) finished in 4th with teammate Serena Britner (Hampton, CT/St. Bernard) right behind in 5th. 

  • The 4x400m relay team (Pria Parker (Hingham, MA/Hingham), Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North), Shams Ferver (Barre, VT/U-32) & Catherine Collins (Westfield, NJ/Westfield)) raced to a second-place finish, recording Smith's fastest time in over 12 years.

  • Elaine McCarty () placed third overall in the heptathlon, setting a personal best and qualifying for the New England Division III Championships.

  • Elowyn Gottsacker (Portland, OR/Roosevelt) finished fifth in the 100m hurdles, running a new personal best.

  • The 4x100m relay team secured a sixth-place finish.

  • Juanita Gutierrez (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) recorded a 16-second personal best in the 5000m.

  • Shams Ferver (Barre, VT/U-32) placed fifth in the 800m final.

  • Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) finished eighth in the 400m.

  • Daniela Pilier (Higuey, DR/Escuela Liceo Juan XXIII de la Salle) posted a new personal best in the 200m.
