BOSTON, MA – Senior Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee) etched their name into the Smith College history books on Friday, delivering a masterclass in distance running at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Competing against a premier field, Martin clocked a blistering 4:54.28 in the mile, setting a new school record.

The performance narrowly eclipsed the previous mark of 4:54.37 set by All-American Pria Parker (Hingham, MA/Hingham). Martin's tactical brilliance allowed her to shave 0.09 seconds off the record, proving her form is peaking at exactly the right moment in the indoor season.
