Bears Compete at UMass Lowell Riverhawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The Smith College track and field team traveled to the world-class "TRACK at New Balance" this weekend to test themselves against a deep field of regional talent at the 2026 UMass Lowell Riverhawk Invitational.

Leading the way for the Bears in the field was Kerry Seekamp (Destin, FL/Fort Walton Beach), who secured a top-10 finish in the pole vault. Seekamp cleared a height of 3.50m (11-05.75) to take 10th place overall in a competitive flight. In the horizontal jumps, Elaine McCarty () put up a strong performance in the open long jump, leaping 4.79m (15-08.75) to finish 15th in a field of over 40 competitors.

On the track, Gwyneth Howes () paced the Bears in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 1:04.31 to earn 13th place. Howes also competed in the 200m dash later in the day, finishing in 28.63. Elowyn Gottsacker (Portland, OR/Roosevelt) showcased her versatility, tying for 31st in the 200m with a time of 27.03 and placing 31st in the 60m hurdles prelims with a mark of 9.57.

Niveen Bugueiro () rounded out the day for Smith, competing in both the 60m and 200m sprints. Bugueiro stopped the clock at 8.70 in the 60m dash and returned to post a 28.64 in the 200m
