Boston, MA - The Bears made a statement at the New England D3 Championships, headlined by a historic performance from the 4x800m relay and a scoring effort in the pole vault.
Relay Rewriting History
The 4x800m relay squad of Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee), Avery Grace Maiese (Waterford, CT/Waterford High School), Indie Lamb (Barrington, RI/Barrington High School), and Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township) delivered the performance of the weekend. The quartet clocked a blistering 9:29.48, shattering the previous school record and securing a 6th-place finish in a highly competitive field.
The relay success was fueled by individual brilliance:
-
Indie Lamb (Barrington, RI/Barrington High School): Continued a stellar debut season with a new Personal Record (PR) in the 600m.
-
Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township): The veteran presence came through with a PR of her own in the 1,000m.
Vertical Success
Over at the pits, the vault crew turned in a massive performance, led by Kerry Seekamp (Destin, FL/Fort Walton Beach). Seekamp cleared 3.60m to earn an 8th-place finish, adding valuable points to the team total.
It was a productive day for the entire unit, as both Seekamp and Cady Sorenson (Orlando, FL/Lake Highland Prep) notched Season Bests (SB) in the event, showing they are peaking at exactly the right time as championship season continues.
By the Numbers:
-
1 New School Record (4x800m)
-
9:29.48 Official Record Time
-
2 All-New England Scorers (Relay & Seekamp)
-
4 Personal or Season Bests
