MEDFORD, Mass. – Sophomore Elowyn Gottsacker (Portland, OR/Roosevelt) etched their name into the Smith College history books on Saturday, delivering a record-breaking performance in the 60-meter hurdles at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet. Competing at the Gantcher Center, the Bears tested themselves against a deep field of regional talent in their final push for national qualification.
On the Track
The highlight of the day came in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles.

Gottsacker crossed the finish line in a blistering 9.21 seconds.

This performance eclipsed the previous school record of 9.27, which had stood since 2015.

Gottsacker finished ninth overall, narrowly missing the eight-person final despite her historic time.
In the distance events, the Bears continued to show the depth that has defined their 2026 indoor campaign.

1 Mile Run: Senior Lyda Martin (San Antonio, TX/Lee) secured a podium finish, taking third place with a strong time of 4:54.47.

800 Meter Run: Junior Sofia Jurusz (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Middle Township) powered through a competitive field to finish seventh in 2:18.36.

400 Meter Dash: Senior Lena Baker (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit North) clocked a 1:00.32 to earn a sixth-place finish.
In the Field
Senior Kerry Seekamp (Destin, FL/Fort Walton Beach) represented Smith in the pole vault invite section.
