Game Preview: Softball vs. Elms

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--After a week of games in Florida, the New England portion of the schedule begins when the Pioneers (1-7) host Elms College (3-8) for single game at 4 p.m. 


Last Meeting:  Elms defeated Smith, 5-1, on March 28, 2011.  Tessa Clark (Calais, Maine/Calais) drove in the lone run for Smith with a fourth inning double.

Last Smith Win:  Sarah Watson hit a home run and drove in three runs as Smith beat the Blazers 6-1 on April 3, 2006.

Smith Overview:  Smith is ready to go after a week in Florida that saw them earn their first win of the season with a 6-0 win over Olivet College on March 19.  Sarah Goodman (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) had two RBI in that game, while Tessa Clark (Calais, Maine/Calais) and Kate O'Brien (Santa Cruz, Calif./Santa Cruz) each drove in a run and Edie Richardson (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) had a pair of hits.

Elms Overview: The Blazers are 2-1 after only notching one win on their trip to Florida.  Elms swept a doubleheader from Johnson State before falling in five innings to Worcester State, 10-2, on March 22.

Smith Player to Watch:  Sarah Goodman (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) had an extremely productive Spring Break trip, hitting .455 with a homerun, two doubles, and three RBI.

Elms Player to Watch: Senior pitcher Elizabeth Patient has a 3.32 ERA in 19.0 innings of work in the circle.

Did you know?  Current Smith softball coach Kelly O'Connell played collegiately at Elms and was inducted into their Hall of Fame last year.
