NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College softball team (2-12) will play their third doubleheader in four days when they host local foe Amherst College (17-0) in a 4 p.m. matchup on Monday afternoon.
Last Meeting: The Lord Jeffs took a 14-3 decision over Smith 11 days ago, when both teams were on their Spring Break trips in Fort Myers, Fla.
Last Smith Win: The Pioneers opened a doubleheader with Amherst with a 9-3 wn on April 16, 2008. Megan Keifer, Kathryn Scoenen, and
Salma Mehter (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) each had three hits.
Smith Overview: Smith fell in a doubleheader to Wheaton College on Sunday, 16-1 and 14-3. The large scores belie the fact that in game one, Smith was down 2-1 heading into the fifth inning, while in game two, the score was tied entering the sixth.
Amherst Overview: Amherst is unbeaten this season, having most recently swept a three game series from longtime rival Williams College to begin NESCAC play. Despite their unbeaten record, Amherst has yet to crack into the national rankings this season.
Smith Player to Watch: Tessa Clark (Calais, Maine/Calais) drove in two runs with a groundout and a sacrifice fly in game two against Wheaton. She is second on the team in hitting with a .316 average.
Amherst Player to Watch: Idalia Friedson has started every game this year, hitting .412 with two home runs and 16 RBI.
