March 29, 2013

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College softball team (4-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) will continue conference play with a doubleheader at Wheaton College (Mass.) (7-7, 0-0 NEWMAC).  Wheaton leads the all-time series, 53-10.

Last Meeting: Wheaton swept a doubleheader from Smith, with scores of 16-1 and 14-3, on April 1, 2012.

Last Smith Win: Sarah Goodman went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI as Smith earned a split with the Lyons with a 9-0 win on April 11, 2009.

Smith Overview: Smith will be in action for the first time since March 24 after Wednesday's scheduled doubleheader against Western New England was postponed.  The Pioneers will be playing for the first time in nearly a week, after last Sunday's doubleheader defeat to Coast Guard.

Wheaton Overview: The Lyons have won three of four since returning from a trip to the Rebel Games in Florida.  Wheaton swept a doubleheader from Lesley University, and earned a road split with Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon.  This marks the conference opener for the Lyons.

Smith Player to Watch: Joanna Giordano (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) has hit safely in four of her last five games, batting .346 in her first 10 contests.

Wheaton Player to Watch: Freshman Kelly Welch is hitting .323 with a home run, three doubles, and six RBI in 13 games.
