NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--The Smith College softball team makes its long awaited home debut when the Pioneers (4-8, 0-4 NEWMAC) host Clark University (6-4, 1-1 NEWMAC) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The games, originally scheduled to be played at Clark, will have the Cougars batting as the home team.
Last Meeting: Clark swept a doubleheader from Smith by scores of 14-1 and 10-1, on the final home day of the regular season a year ago.
Last Smith Win: Despite being out hit 9-6 and committing three errors, Smith edged Clark 5-3 in extra innings on April 14, 2008. Megan Keifer hit a walk-off two run homerun in the bottom of the eighth for a dramatic Smith win.
Smith Overview: Smith was swept in a conference doubleheader against Wheaton on Friday, falling 8-0 and 5-0. The Pioneers struggled at the plate, managing just seven hits through the two games.
Clark Overview: The Cougars opened league play with a split of a doubleheader against WPI. After falling in the opener 5-4, Clark pounded out 16 hits in an 11-0 win.
Smith Player to Watch: Shortstop
Caroline Kushner (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) has three multi-hit games this season, with more than 25% of her hits going for extra bases.
Clark Player to Watch: Tatiana Chunis went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in the second game of the doubleheader.
Did you know? The Cougars are already familiar with Smith's field. Clark, originally scheduled to host WPI on Friday, played the Engineers at Smith instead.
