Game Preview: Softball vs. Westfield State

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.--A busy week begins for the Smith College softball team (4-14) when the Pioneers host Westfield State University (4-13) in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.  

Last Meeting: The Owls took an 8-0 decision in five innings on April 9, 2012.

Last Smith Win: The Pioneers grabbed a 6-4 win over Westfield State on April 9, 2007.  Smith led from start to finish, and the Owls only made it close with four late runs.

Smith Overview:  The Pioneers were swept in a NEWMAC twinbill by Wellesley College by scores of 9-0 and 9-4 on Saturday.  Tori Brown (New Market, Md./Linganore) extended her hitting streak to four games with 3-for-6 hitting over the two games.

Westfield State Overview:  The Owls ended a six game losing streak with a win in the second game of  a MASCAC doubleheader with Framingham State on Saturday.  After falling 7-5 in the opener, Westfield rebounded with a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

Smith Player to Watch: Caroline Kushner (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) is on a six game hitting streak, hitting .368 with two stolen bases in that span.

Westfield State Player to Watch:  Breanne Bisceglia leads the team in doubles (five) and RBI (four).

Did you know? Brown's consistent hitting has her in fifth among all NEWMAC players at a .429 clip.
