Game Preview: Softball vs. Emerson

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College softball team (11-9, 4-8) looks to rebound from a sweep at WPI with a home double dip with Emerson (13-15, 2-10) on Saturday. First pitch is slated for noon.
 
Last Meeting: Smith defeated Emerson 1-0 on May 11, 2005 in the squad's ECAC Division III New England Championship tournament opener.
 
The Series: Smith has the 1-0 advantage.
 
Fast Facts: Emerson blanked Babson, 6-0, in game two as the Lions earned a split on Friday night…Jenna Giannelli is third in the conference in batting average (.452) and is tied with teammate Shannon Torosian and Jessie Richardson from Coast Guard for second with 25 RBI…Gianelli is also tied for third with four home runs…Alicia Daniele is tied with Gina Martucci (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) for second with 10 wins and has struck out 76 batters, good for fourth in the NEWMAC and 11 behind Martucci who is third...the Pioneers have stolen 12 more bases than their opponents (27-15)…the Smith pitching staff has set down 106 batters via the strikeout while opponents have registered 75 Ks…the Pioneers are 6-0 when leading after six and 3-0 when tied heading into the seventh.
 
Next Up: Smith welcomes Amherst on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference set. Emerson hosts Coast Guard on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
