Game Preview: Softball vs. Wellesley

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith College softball team (9-6, 3-5) looks to rebound from a Friday sweep at Springfield with a home New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) twinbill against Wellesley (10-6, 6-0) on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
 
Last Meeting: Wellesley scored nine in each end of last year's doubleheader en route to a, 9-0 and 9-4, sweep on April 6 in Northampton.
 
The Series: Smith won six of the first seven but the Blue has captured the last 12. The Pioneers last swept Wellesley on April 14, 2007 by scores of 3-2 and 6-5.
 
Fast Facts: Wellesley has won eight in-a-row and has swept Clark, Emerson and Babson… Emilyrose Havrilla is second in the NEWMAC with four homeruns and third with a .478 batting average…Ashtyn Coleman is fourth with three round-trippers…Jaclyn Tsang paces the conference with 13 stolen bases…Caroline Kusher is one of three NEWMAC student-athletes tied for third with seven stolen bases…Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) leads the team with six walks and 14 runs scored…Gina Martucci (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) is holding opponents to a .175 batting average…Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) increased her extra-base hit total to four with a pair of doubles in game one against Springfield.
 
Next Up: The Pioneers travel to Westfield State on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. Wellesley heads to Coast Guard for a conference set tomorrow at noon.
