Game Preview: Softball vs. Albertus Magnus

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The third-seeded Smith College softball team (19-13) hosts sixth-seeded Albertus Magnus (17-17) for an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship first round game at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
 
Last Meeting: The Pioneers blanked the Falcons 3-0 in the 2000 season opener.

Fast Facts: Albertus Magnus made the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament for the first time since 2006…Brittney Urciuoli and Amanda Jessey each made the GNAC All-Conference Third Team…Jessey is second in the GNAC with 18 stolen bases while Urciuoli is tied for third (14)…it is believed that this is the first ECAC bid for the Falcons in program history…Gina Martucci (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock Township) was named the 2014 NEWMAC Softball Pitcher of the Year…Martucci, who leads the NEWMAC with a 1.12 ERA, collected 40 assists in the regular season and 17 more in the NEWMAC tournament…a victory would give the Pioneers its seventh 20-win season in the 41-year history of the program…Smith College Associate Athletic Director Bonnie May was the head coach for all six 20-win seasons to date, including a 34-6 campaign that concluded with the 2004 ECAC title.
 
Next Up: The winner of Wednesday's single-elimination game moves on to play second-seeded, and host, Brandeis on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. as part of the four-team double-elimination portion of the tournament.
