Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Springfield College softball team swept a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games at Smith College Thursday evening, as the Pride claimed a 8-5 win in game one and a 4-3 victory in game two.
Springfield 8, Smith 5Springfield's sophomore Jordyn Moquin (Southington, Conn.) pitched two innings in relief, limiting the Pioneers to just three hits to pick up her first win of the season. Moquin threw 35 pitches, yielded three hits and two runs alongside zero walks and one strikeout. First-year starting pitcher Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.) threw five innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while walking two.

Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) took the loss on two innings pitched, allowing five runs on six hits. First-year
Rowan Turner (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) was solid to start, going five innings and allowing eight hits, three runs and zero walks to go with two strikeouts.
The Pioneers scored the game's first three runs throughout the first four innings of the game. Junior

Allison Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) to plate the game's first run in the bottom of the third.
Smith added two more in the fourth when sophomore
Sarah Tully (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) doubled to center to score first-year
Rowan Turner (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) from second. Snyder singled to advance Tully to third, and sophomore
Ruth Zimmerman (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) singled to right to score Tully and stake the Pioneers to a 3-0 advantage.
Springfield tied the contest in the fifth, with junior Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.) plating a pair on a single through the left side. Junior Jenna Webb followed with a single into center that knotted the contest at three.
After a scoreless bottom half of the fifth, sophomore Alicia Pavadore(Taunton, Mass.)'s RBI-single gave the Pride their first lead of the game. That lead was short lived, as Snyder launched a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left for her second home run of the season.
Springfield answered in the top of the seventh, going ahead for good on junior Elizabeth Joseph's three-run home run to left.
Springfield 4, Smith 3Springfield sophomore Nicole Cring (Cooperstown, N.Y.) picked up the victory in the backend of the twin bill, going 3 2/3 innings in relief while allowing just two hits and no walks to go with a pair of strikeouts.
Burchat was handed the loss on an inning pitched, allowing just two hits, one of which was the go-ahead home run. Turner followed, throwing three innings of shutout softball to silence the Pride bats.
Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Webb singled to center to score sophomore Camdyn Morgillo (West Haven, Conn.), who reached on a fielder's choice to open the frame.
Smith scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second, as senior
Edie Richardson (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) led off the frame with a five-pitch walk. Turner singled through the left side on the next pitch, and Richardson came into score on junior
Caroline Kushner (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire)'s RBI-double down the left field line. Turner came into score on Snyder's RBI-single to left, and Giordano earned a seven-pitch, bases loaded, walk to put Smith ahead, 3-1.
Springfield again answered, as a RBI-groundout and two solo home runs provided all the runs the Pride needed to complete the sweep.
Sophomore Tasha Polana connected for her first home run of the season in the third to tie the contest, 3-3, and Joseph homered for the second time on the day, connecting on her fourth home run of the season in the fourth to give Springfield a lead they never relinquished.
Springfield (7-11, 5-1 NEWMAC) hosts MIT Saturday for a 12 p.m. twinbill, while Smith (4-10, 0-6 NEWMAC) is scheduled to travel to Wellesley Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
