Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Smith softball team concluded their 2015 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schedule with a rain-soaked doubleheader against WPI Wednesday.

The Engineers took game one by a 7-6 score before taking the nightcap in five innings, 19-7.

Senior Edie Richardson (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy), playing in her final NEWMAC doubleheader of her career, went 4-for-7 with two runs scored and one driven in. With her four hits Wednesday, Richardson passed Chloe Pete '07 (104) and Katie Winger '01 (104) for 12th-place all-time on Smith's career hit list.

Junior Tori Brown (New Market, Md./Linganore) went 3-for-7 and sits just four hits shy of joining Richardson in the 100-hit club. Classmate Joanna Giordano (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) went 3-for-6 with her fifth career triple, moving into a four-way tie for sixth-place on Smith's career triples list. She also needs just 12 hits to join the 100-hit club.

Sophomore Sarah Tully (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) went 3-for-6 with a double and a team-best four RBI, while first-year Caroline Eyman (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile) stole two bases and scored a run.

WPI 7, Smith 6

WPI first-year Kelsey Saucier (Worcester, Mass.) earned the win in relief on two and two-third innings pitched, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out four and walking just one. Classmate Casey Arpin (Uxbridge, Mass.) earned her fourth save of the season, allowing no runs on two hits over two innings pitched.

Smith first-year Rowan Turner (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) took the loss on seven innings pitched, 11 hits, seven runs (all earned), two walks and a career-high nine strikeouts.

In the top of the first inning, senior Katie Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) put the Engineers on the board with a RBI-single up the middle and sophomore Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, Conn.) followed with a two-run single to center that put WPI ahead, 3-0.

The Engineers added three more runs in the top of the second, as RBI-singles by first-year Ama Biney (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Kristin Gallagher (Coventry, RI) gave WPI a 6-0 lead.

The Pioneers answered in the home half of the second, plating a pair of runs on Tully's single to center that cut Smith's deficit to four (6-2).

Smith added a run in the bottom of the third, as sophomore Allison Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) led off the frame with a double to the gap in left, and later came around to score on senior Edie Richardson (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy)'s single back up the middle.

WPI got a run back in the top of the fourth, as Biney connected on her fifth home run of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, Brown launched her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center, while classmate Caroline Kushner (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) plated the final run of the frame on a single up the middle.

The Pioneers had the tying run on third base in both the sixth and seventh inning, but Arpin twice pitched out of harms way to seal the win for the Engineers.

WPI 19, Smith 7

WPI junior Clare Doolin picked up the win on four innings pitched, seven runs (five earned), two walks and two strikeouts.

Brown suffered the loss over five innings of work, dropping her record to 2-2.

WPI struck for four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore Lindsay Gurska (Revere, Mass.).

In the third, senior Amanda Pierce (Ware, Mass.) blasted her first home run of the season to put the Engineers ahead, 7-1.

The Pioneers got to within two, 7-5, with a four-run bottom of the third, as Giordano connected on her second triple of the season to score the runner from third. Brown followed with a single up the middle that brought in Giordano, and Tully cleared the bases with a sharply hit double to the gap in left.

WPI struck for seven runs in the fourth, and added a five-spot in the fifth to finish off the sweep.

Brown and Tully each went 2-for-3 at the dish in game two for Smith.

Smith concludes the 2015 season with a 10-18 overall record, and a 5-13 record in conference play.
