NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College softball team begins a week-long spring break trip Saturday and Sunday with games against Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, Lasell and Fitchburg State.

Smith CollegeScout: The Pioneers (0-0) return a more experienced team in 2016 and hope to improve upon their 4-6 record from last season's spring break trip. Head Coach
Kelly O'Connell is in her fifth season leading the Pioneers after a 10-15 record a season ago. Returning for Smith is 2015 All-Conference second team selection Ally Snyder, who led the team hitting .429 with 30 hits, 21 RBI and a school-record seven homers. Snyder was also named to the All-New England second team by the NFCA and set a school record with her .800 slugging percentage.

Tori Brown (New Market, Md./Linganore) (96 hits) and
Joanna Giordano (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) (88) could reach the 100 hit mark while in Florida.

Ohio Wesleyan Univeristy All-Time Series Record: N/A
Scout: The Battling Bishops (1-6), who hail from the North Coast Athletic Conference, had a 15-21 record last season, with a 4-12 mark in league play failing to qualify for the NCAC tournament. Ohio Wesleyan returns 6 of their top 8 hitters from a team that set numerous school offensive records a season ago. Jess Gooden leads the team with a .428 batting average. OWU is led by Head Coach Cassie Cunningham in her 10th season at the helm.
Wittenberg University All-Time Series Record: N/A
Scout: The Tigers (6-0), from the North Coast Athletic Conference, finished with a 20-17 record last season and the second seed in the conference tournament, but were bounced after two losses. Katie Baumgartner leads Wittenberg batting .533, while Chelsea Zhang has already blasted three home runs. The Tigers are under the guidance of fourth-year Head Coach Laura Matthews.

Scout: From the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the Lasers (0-0) sported a 9-25 record a season ago. Head Coach Rich Paulhus is in his second season with Lasell. The Lasers return their top-two hitters from a season ago.

Scout: The Falcons (0-0) sported an 11-16 mark in 2015 out of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. Head Coach Merry MacDonald is in her fourth season at the helm of the program. A host of returners will be key as the Falcons have 12 freshmen on the roster. Marissa Gemmis and Emily Comtois will lead Fitchburg in the batters box.
