Game 1: Amherst 3 Smith 2 (9 Innings)The game began as a pitchers duel as the game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when
Allison Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury)'s single to left scored
Kristina Gaffny (Reading, Mass./Austin Prep).Â
Amherst answered in the sixth as Sammy Salustri's single up the middle allowed Julia Turner to cross home plate.
In extras, Turner scored her second run of the game on a single to left by Alena Marovits to give the visitors a 2-1 lead, but Smith would not go down without a fight as Kushner's single scored Snyder.Â
An Amherst run in the top of the ninth proved to be the game-winner as the Pioneers were unable to bat
Caroline Eyman (Bethlehem, N.H./Profile) in from third base.
Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) took the loss as the junior pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

With
Lydia DeAngelo (Portsmouth, R.I./Moses Brown School) on first base for the Pioneers, Snyder blasted a bomb to deep center to cut the deficit to 3-2.Â
Amherst grabbed two more runs in the fourth as Turner's triple brought in two of her teammates for a 5-2 advantage.Â
An error by the Amherst catcher allowed
Rowan Turner (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) to score but the Pioneers' chances for a comeback fell short as the game ended in six innings.Â
Turner struck out seven for Smith with no walks in six innings of work and also helped her cause at the plate, going 2-for-3. Snyder led the Pioneers with two RBI in the loss.Â
