THE SERIES
The game marks the 60th meeting between the two programs, dating back to the first contest during the 1984 season - a 2-1 Smith victory. The Cougars lead the series 36-23.
LAST MEETING
Natalie Burchat (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and
Rowan Turner (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) set new career-highs in strikeouts and
Emma Kraus (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) blasted a grand slam in the fifth inning of the second game to power the Smith College softball team to a sweep of Clark on April 1, 2016. The Pioneers won game one, 6-2, and finished off the sweep with a 4-2 come from behind victory in game two.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Smith enters a new era in 2017 under first year head coach
Emily Lopez. The Pioneers look to improve upon a 2016 season which saw them finish 13-20 overall, 9-9 in conference play and just shy of a playoff berth. Leading the offense this season will be senior
Ally Snyder (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury), a two-time All-Conference Second Team selection. She currently holds the Smith College softball record for home runs in a season (8) and home runs in a career (15) and currently ranks second in the NEWMAC in home runs (4). Smith played a week ago, earning a split against Babson College. In the series, senior
Brittney Blokker (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) went 3-for-6 with three RBI and a double while Snyder extended her own career home run record. The Pioneers were selected to finish 8th in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Under the direction of Linda Wage who is in her 29th season, the Scarlet and White are extremely young this season with just four upperclassmen of the 15 student-athletes that comprise the team. Left handed hurler Brenna Foley
will return to the circle after a solid sophomore campaign where she led the team in victories (7) and spun eight complete games. Senior Lauren Mackey became the 21st player in school history to reach the century mark in hits on March 4 against Eastern Nazarene. Due to inclement weather, the Cougars have been unable to play since returning from their annual spring break trip to Florida. In their last outing, Clark dropped a pair of games to Geneva College and Swarthmore despite a 6-for-8 appearance at the dish from Christina Kopacz. The Cougars were picked to finish 10th in the NEWMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
