BALTIMORE - The Smith College volleyball team has its sights set on the NCAA Volleyball Regional Trophy this weekend, traveling to Baltimore for the regional hosted by Johns Hopkins to take on Endicott.

The Pioneers (30-6) advanced and won the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday afternoon, upsetting the number one seed MIT.

Head coach Greg Walker has led the Pioneers to 4 postseason tournaments and 1 appearances in the conference semifinals in his four seasons in charge.

Smith leads the NEWMAC in hitting percentage (.276), service aces (437) and second in kills per set (12.88)

This will be the third time Smith has reached the NCAA Tournament. They have fallen in the first round in the previous two attempts and will look to get their first tournament win.
Players to Watch

Junior Abby Hunt (Mandeville, LA/Fontainebleau) leads the team in kills with 351 total thus far this season which is good for sixth in the NEWMAC. Hunt won NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week twice so far this season and is looking to capitalize on her 16 kill performance against Wellesley. Hunt was also named 1st team All-NEWMAC yesterday.

Taylor Gwynne (Chapel Hill, NC/Carrborro) has been a great addition to this Smith squad. With Gwynne having reached over 1000 assists already this season, she looks to continue to build on that and lead the offense which is ranked in the top ten in the country. Gwynne was also named 2nd team All-NEWMAC yesterday. She reached the 3,000 career mark over the weekend as well.

Sixth-seeded Endicott defeated Wentworth in the Conference of New Enlgand (CNE) 3-0 to claim its spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gulls are 22-7 on the year and hold a perfect 9-0 record in conference during the regular season.

Hadley Helenbrook leads Endicott in scoring (5.04 k/s) and is a threat from the outside.
