Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON - The Smith College softball team completed the series sweep of NEWMAC opponent Clark University at home on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers rallied for a walk-off win in game two (6-5, 8 Innings) and used a seven-run sixth inning in the game one (12-4, 6 Innings) victory. Smith improved to 17-10-1 on the year with a 7-5 record in NEWMAC games. The Cougars drop to 6-22 overall and 1-11 in the NEWMAC.
Juno Shantz (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) continued her hot hitting with another mult-homer afternoon, while
CeCe Alaniz (Bakersfield, CA/East Bakersfield) recorded five RBI.
Game 1: Smith 12 Clark 4 (6 Innings)
- Alaniz totaled four RBI on three hits, while Lexi Balam (Lyndeborough, NH/Wilton-Lyndeborough Coop), Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point), and Luch Allen all finished with three hits
- Emilie Doty (Arlington, VA/Washington-Liberty) improved to 9-5 on the year with seven strikeouts while only allowing five hits
- Shantz led off the game with a solo shot to left field, her seventh homerun of the year
- Clark doubled up Smith's lead in the third, however Alaniz blasted her third home run of the year to put Smith up 5-2 in the fifth
- The Cougars got to within a run, but Smith exploded for seven runs in the sixth to earn the mercy rule victory
- Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) ended the game when she doubled to center, scoring Balam and Kiera Collins-Joseph (Arlington, VA/Wakefield)
Game 2: Smith 6 Clark 5 (8 Innings)
- Aislinn Lavery (Franklin, MA/Franklin) earned the win allowing one run on one hit in three innings
- Three Pioneer registered multiple hits in Shantz, Gray, and Allen
- Clark generated two runs in third and Smith would tie it in the fourth. Alaniz doubled to right followed by a Lucy Allen (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) single to right
- Trailing 4-2 in the seventh and down to the final out, Shantz belted a two-run homer to tie the game at 4-4
- In the extra frame, Clark pushed across a run in the eighth to take a 5-4 lead
- Smith tied it on Gray's double to center and Allen won it in extras on an RBI single to left field
