Box Score 2 NORTHAMPTON - Behind a pair of strong pitching performances by Williams, the Smith College softball team dropped a pair of games in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. The Ephs took game one 8-0, before a come-from-behind 7-2 decision in game two. The Pioneers drop to 17-12-1 on the year, while Williams are now 15-10.
Game 1: Smith 0 Williams 8
- Sadie Leonard dominated for the Ephs, allowing only two hits over five innings with 11 strikeouts
- Smith's Emlie Doty (9-6) took the loss, giving up four runs
- Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point) and Taylor Ang (San Diego, CA/Canyon Crest Academy) collected the only hits of the game for Smith
- Leading 3-0, Kelly McQuigan blasted a solo shot to deep left field to put the visitors up 4-0
- Williams added runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the 8-0 final
Game 2: Smith 2 Williams 7
- Piper Corey (Phoenix, AZ/Horizon Honors) got Smith on the board first as she scored on a groundout in the second
- Williams knotted the game at 1-1 when Sydney Fleming homered to right field
- The Pioneers regained the lead int he fifth when Juno Shantz (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) singled to second, bringing home Taz Tamai (Cincinatti, OH/The Seven Hills School)
- From there, Williams took over, scoring five runs in the fifth to seal the 7-2 victory
- Shantz, who leads the NEWMAC with 45 hits, went 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Bailey Gray (Missouri City, TX/Ridge Point) (3-2) shouldered the loss giving up six runs on seven hits
