Smith Athletics Hall of Fame
Carey Beth 'CB' Sands-Bohrer '83 began her collegiate athletic career as a three-year member of the Smith swimming and diving team. After taking a rowing class on Paradise Pond, CB fell in love with the sport and was named the Smith Athletics Rookie of the Year as a junior. In her senior season, CB was the stroke in the Varsity Lightweight Eight boat that captured the Eastern Sprints crown in 1983. She went on to win the double sculls at the Rowing World Championships in Nottingham, England in 1986 - the first gold won by United States women's scullers. CB also struck gold at the 1989 World Championships in Bled, Yugoslavia. In 2013, the eight-time national team member won the Senior-Masters Doubles with a record-setting 19:17.932 at the 2013 Head of the Charles. CB currently coaches high school girls and is a coaching instructor for all levels at Community Rowing, Inc. in addition to her work as a marketing consultant.
