Kim Bierwert served as the head coach of the Smith College swimming and diving program for over 40 years, leaving an indelible mark on collegiate athletics through his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Under his guidance, the swim and dive program flourished with four individual national champions, more than 90 All-Americans, and 21 appearances at the NCAA Championships. He led the team to over 200 dual meet wins, six Seven Sisters Championships and numerous school records, many of which still stand today. 

Bierwert's ability to cultivate excellence extended to individual recognition as well. He was named as the NEWMAC Diving Coach of the Year twice and received the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1997. 

Beyond collegiate competition, Bierwert inspired a culture of endurance and achievement, coaching multiple swimmers who successfully completed the English Channel crossing. His impact also extended into the broader swimming community through his service in various leadership roles with the Western Massachusetts Swim League, College Swim Coaches of America, and the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Committee.

Kim Bierwert’s legacy at Smith is one of excellence, passion and commitment to the development of student-athletes. His career stands as a model of coaching leadership in collegiate athletics.
