Smith Athletics Hall of Fame
Jill Ker Conway, the first woman president of Smith College was a catalyst for the construction of the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility (ITT), the outdoor track and tennis courts, and the renovation of the equestrian indoor ring. During her tenure, President Conway supported giving undergraduate credit for physical education classes and could often be seen walking/exercising on campus. Perhaps her single greatest contribution to intercollegiate athletics was the creation of an athletics department separate from physical education. Conway is the author of several books including her autobiography and is a member of many foundations including The Nike Inc. Foundation. She splits her residency between Boston and Conway, Massachusetts.
